how can a hikikomori find a good job?
@Люк I suggest you first look into doing something that you enjoy to do.
Then check if it gives you enough money.
Make a list of available jobs.
Research them.

If the salary does not suit you, consider different jobs that would make you less satisfied, but would pay well.
And at least, consider just working something you might absolutely not like, but it would pay you well enough to allow you have fun in life, like travel somewhere and / or buy yourself something nice.
Does my anwer satisfy you, @Люк?

Just set yourself a goal: Get up, think of what do I want to do for a living? Let yourself rest, take your time. Set yourself a goal: research 1st option. Ok, done. Either move on, or take your time. Just always keep those two things in mind: 1) You have all the time in the world, so there is no need to hurry and do everything at once. 2) The more time you take, the more time you lose that you could already be spending in improving yourself.

@Люк Do you have any "charity shops" in your country? Places where you can volunteer and sell stuff that people donate to charities - Volunteering there for even just a small amount of time, maybe one or two days per week, is a good way of getting used to getting outside and having a semi regular routine

A little late here, but here's a few interview/application specific tips. please consider grooming well. Employers like to see employees who are able to be responsible for themselves. Even if it is a part time job, but more importantly if the job means you will be visible to clients. Write your resume and maybe a short letter of introduction. A printed copy of a simple but honest resume can go a long way, though depending on the job, you may want to be selective of what to include. Call ahead. Even if they accept walk-in applicants. ;) Practice speaking out loud beforehand, get your mind and throat used to the motion so you don't need to be overly conscious (a bit conscious is good). Also, drink plenty. Being hydrated makes our voices sound better. Do some stretches to loosen up your arms and legs. It is natural and okay to be nervous. But it still helps to not move stiffly. and with that.... Stand straight and mind your posture when sitting and walking. It will feel awkward if you're not used to it, but you'll look terrific regardless. if you are not the only applicant during the interview, don't fidget while waiting. be calm, breathe deeply, and smile. lastly, before even anything else. Research about the job and company you are applying for. This not only helps you with interview questions, but also with other things like what to wear (don't wear a business attire if the company likes to dress casually), or how to behave (again, no point being overly formal if its an indie company with an unorthodox office policy).

For anyone who isn't that much into any exercise but wants to get fitter and also may suffer from not feeling well in crowded areas where people can look at you, there is one thing you might be able to do if you have the opportunity for it where you live. Get yourself a bicycle and take on some roads where there is a lot of green around you. Parhaps even take with some music or audio book to listen to. Biking is a really relaxing kind of exercise if you have a good bicycle. Unlike running, an untrained person will not get exhausted too fast with it, so that the desire of giving up after a short period of time shouldn't come up that fast. Cardiovascular activity is really important for your health. Going for a bike ride once in a while can really prolong your life and prevent diseases if you lack movement in your life.

The bike suggestion is really good but if you've got the space at home you can just do some Calisthenics, there are some really good workout routines on Youtube, plus getting a Jumping Rope or a Dumbbell or two can be used to spruce things up. I'd still suggest on focusing mostly on keeping the correct form for the first week, after that it should be much easier to focus on the right muscles without thinking too much about your posture.

re: blinds/sunlight Yes, it has been studied that exposure to sunlight does increase the release of certain brain chemicals that help deal with depression. However, do not worry about forcing yourself (especially if you have been living in a dark isolated room for a prolonged period of time). It has also been studied that a lot of us tend to become quite nocturnal when we self-isolate. So before opening those windows, consider getting your sleeping habits adjusted first. Try looking up on guides on adjusting your sleeping patterns (I would start with googling 'circadian rhythm'). Once you're awake during daytime in your part of the world, then re-consider the notion of opening the window. :) In addition to the above.. it is most likely that you are often staring at a monitor or screen of sorts (you are on discord after all), so get something to filter out the blue light on your screen. Software such as Flux (feel free to google it and for similar software) will even auto-control the visual settings to complement the time of day, and some smartphones and tablets have similar features. Now, if opening the window is a big step (and it sometimes is), take it in increments. Pull the shade or curtain aside at night and maybe stick some light paper or cloth to the glass. This will help defuse the intensity of sunlight. When you do open it, remember that no one can force you to open the window entirely -how much you open is up to your level of comfort. From there, you can slowly adjust over the days/weeks. The goal is to get re-accustomed to a little more light exposure at first, then gradually work your way all the way up to bringing in some fresh air (it is healthy for both your body and mind), though some regions in this world doesn't have that so maybe just aim for sunlight (and if you're near the poles, then most of these probably don't even apply).

In addition to software, if you're wearing glasses, you can get blue light filters, that might do a better job (I'm a little sceptical about the software part). Also windows 10 come with a "night light" option, so if you're on a laptop, that will also help. As for phones / tablets I have found that app called night light works the best, since you can change the color scheme, intensity and warmness. But with phone and tablet apps, there might be issues with APK installation (android) and screenshots, since it's a filter applied to your screen, screenshot will have the same filter applied.

Take care of yourself. Here are 4 simple things I do and it makes a boatload of difference when I follow it. When I get slack at any one of these, I notice my emotional wellbeing deteriorate. 1. Sleep at least 8 hours a day. You'll feel good just waking up, ready to seize the day. 2. Eat healthy food. You'll feel light, satisfied and reinvigorated. 3. Exercise. Great stress relief as well as a sense of progression as you move on to higher weights. You will also notice visual changes to your body giving you a sense of accomplishment. 4. Nofap or try to do it 1 week at most. No using pornographic materials. Use your imagination. You'll feel more energized, reinvigorated and more in the present. Try do this one at a time until you build a habit if 1 then move to another 1. Small goals. Doing all these 4 things at once will burn you out. That's what's been happening to me. I'd successfully be doing all 4, I'd slip into one and and I'd crash and burn and slip on all of them. You have to be consistent with this to feel the results but its honestly so worth it if you could keep it up. I am not a very disciplined person so I struggle but God does it ever work once you have this set routine.

I listened a lot to his podcast but I feel like what he wants us to do is such a tall task I get intimidated by his tips. Like for instance, standing up for myself. He urges you to stand up for yourself and not be a doormat. So I try to do that and I stutter like a fool and just embarrass myself even more when I am in a verbal argument. I just cant seem to be as smooth as him.

One thing that really helped me to get out and socialise, be more active and therefore be happier - at least for me - is getting a fitbit. With the fitbit, there is a pedometer and if you are an autistic cunt like me you will probably want to achieve the steps a day. It gives you purpose to go outside instead of - just aim wanderlessly and not have the same feeling of reward that the fitbit gives. Literally couldn't even do 3000 steps when I first got it, but after a month of dedicating myself to getting to the 10k steps a day, I managed to lose weight, get back into basketball again, be able to achieve so much in a given day. If you can't afford one, probably get a rip off brand of the fitbit versa or any other type of band that tracks your health. For me it helped stop comparing myself to others and focus on being more and more productive day after day.

Cool! I've never heard of the "Fitbit" before. I think it's a very useful item. Also there is a pedometer on the phone in this day age. I use my phone to measure my steps.📱 There are apps that measure steps and graph them too. And there are other games that are designed to help you walk. For example, Pokemon go. Anyway, walking is a very good thing. If I stay in a room long time, I became depressed, but once I get outside and start walking, I feel a lot better. It's scientifically proven that this is because when you exercise, your brain releases serotonin and endorphins. It makes you feel refreshed. And exercise is good for your health in terms of physical health also. (edited)

The next time you ever feel insecure or have no sense of self worth, one thing you can do is to have an honest talk with someone who will listen to you. People battling and coping with depression are, more often the not, the most likely to be unable to realize how much they are achieving. Stuttering, insecurity, autism, OCD, anxiety, PTSD, agoraphobia, and many of the concerns that we face are literally crippling (even so when it is a combination of more than one, as it tends to be). Coping with that while dealing with daily life is a much bigger thing than we can realize. Finding someone who will listen is normally not easy, but that's why communities like ours exist. When you do find someone, remember that when they tell you about the value of what you do - you should keep an open mind, listen, and believe in the words they say. (edited)

The "Hikikomori" who stays at home and the "Traveler" who keeps moving around seem to be polar opposites, but they can actually be very well-matched together sometimes. I used to be severely Hikikomori and still do not fit in well with people and society. But when I travel alone, this is not so much a problem. Because the travel would take me out of that society that gives me suffering. And travel is also good for health. I believe that travel has a very positive effect on the body and mind. Exposure to the sun and exercise has a positive effect on the body and mind, as mentioned in a previous post on this channel. And, when you travel, you meet a variety of new things. New sights, cultures, languages, people. And you can get a new inspiration by them. (edited)

Edited and Reposted from hiki-chat, also, super long The devoted and unconditional love from pets can be a source of strength against depression and other negative feelings. While pets are not for everyone, a high majority of us are positively receptive to them. If you think you have the means and resources to provide a home to a pet cat or dog (please do due diligence in research as taking of a pet should not be taken lightly), I highly encourage considering adopting one. To consider:
- dietary needs (what it eats, how much the food costs, how easily accessible the food is), also, make sure they are not over or underfeed your pet as this WILL lead to severe medical issues.
>
- is the home pet-safe and pet-proof (these will differ depending on the pet considered; pet-safe means the home not being dangerous to the pet, and pet-proof means minimizing the amount of possible mess or damage a pet can cause. Pro-Tip: be prepared to live with fur on everything)
>
- is your neighbourhood/apartment/condo/etc pet-friendly? The last thing you'd want is to have your pet taken away because the building does not allow them. Please follow local laws (and with that said, don't acquire illegal, endangered animals as pets).
>
- medical needs (pets, depending on species and breed, are prone to certain types of sicknesses, diseases, and injuries; so do consider your ability to provide special care, and of course, the accessibility and availability of vets who specialize in them, it doesn't hurt to call a local vet and see if they can handle the pet you plan to get)
>
- a pet is a life-long commitment. A pet will be emotionally devastated and it will physically deteriorate and die if you abandon it. So make sure you have sufficient availability for the pet. Be prepared to invest time, emotions, and more. While this post came about to encourage having pets to cope with life, it doesn't mean the pets should be abandoned the moment you start getting better.
(edited)
- different pets have different space and activity requirements. Dogs in particular benefit from different kinds of exercise (they need to expend the energy they have). Cats need scratch posts and a personal space for themselves. Birds need enough space to spread their wings and fly around a bit. All of them need a space to eat and excrete waste (litter boxes, etc -and these have to be cleaned and maintained on a daily basis). These will vary in degrees depending on the age of the pet as well. So be sure to research the behaviour and needs of your desired pet from birth to death before making that commitment
>
- treat the pet as a pet. Pets are not humans, and therefore, they do not follow or practice human social traits. Dogs have a pack mentality (which means that your responsibility is to become the pack's alpha, even if you're only a pack of two). Cats are an unpredictable mix of independent and overly clingy -which they themselves dictate the iterations of. Some species of birds may get overly attached, either imprinting on you (they will see you as a parent), or consider you as their mate (yeah... too long and too hard to explain, please just read up on these). I'm pretty sure other similar rules apply for rabbits, hamsters, capybaras, and other kinds of pets.
❤️ 3
- Be prepared for end-of-life care. Unless its a bird or some other long-living pet, you are likely to outlive a pet. So be ready to face that part in their life where they die of (the complications that come with) old age. Not to ignore a myriad of accidents and possible fatal sicknesses that can happen earlier, but please be there till the last moment and give all the love and care you can. Euthanasia is a complex topic, but it is highly encouraged and recommended when the quality of life has gotten to a point where the pet is simply suffering and any other medical intervention is simply prolonging the pain. Of course, as hard as that final moment is, please don't leave the pet alone with the vet. It will give your pet much comfort if you are there in its final moments.
>
- if you do get a pet that lives for a very long time, make sure to have plans for when it outlives you. Younger friends or family members can continue to provide care for it, and you will have to arrange that properly.
>
- lastly, make sure you have someone (a professional sitter, or a trusted friend/family member) to take care of your pet when you need to be away for a long time (work, vacation, etc)
I would like to emphasize that pets can help deal with depression and other emotional issues, but: they are not the cure. And it is not advisable to rely on them solely for all your emotional needs. This not only puts an unreasonable expectation on the pet, but it may also prevent the owner from providing proper judgement in determining the care that the pet will receive. [Thanks to @Uovo for helping me cover more topics not included in the original post]

Basic troubleshooting for headaches 1. did you sleep well? lack of sleep causes headaches. also, sleeping with an irregular pattern is confusing on the brain and body 2. are your eyes tired? many people get headaches caused by fatigue in the eyes. close em, use a cold compress, and if possible, don't sleep with tired eye. protip: blink often or use eyedrops to keep the surface moist and to prevent scratches on the eyeballs. 3. avoid stress-inducing stimuli totally easier said than done as this is a case by case basis. but do know that some things can cause stress without you realizing it. (smells, lights, noise, etc --even if you think you are used to it, some things result in stress) 4. how is your digestion? (both intake and uhm, output) dont ignore the digestive system. (though hunger gives headaches more often than being full would, unless you ate and drank a really bad combo). also, if you are unable to excrete waste properly, that could cause headaches too. 5. try sugar? lack of glucose is a possible issue. try some chocolates or whatever light sweets you are able to eat. I would suggest basic stretching exercises and moving around after sitting for prolonged periods... There are various exercises that can be done safely without tools -with the end goal of loosening up our limbs and increasing circulation. But for anyone interested in using weights for muscle development, please don't skip the warm ups and always seek professional guides for using dumbells properly (and have a spotter for any activity that requires it).

basic exercises help with cardio (blood circulation) and prevents muscle atrophy. These are needed for the maintenance and upkeep of our bodies (it won't tone muscles), and prevents long term medical issues. Regarding indoor exercises. Once you reach the point that your routine starts making you sweat, consider using vents/windows/etc (whatever is available), to help air out your workout area in order to keep it fresh and sanitized (and be sure to take a wash after cooling down). Something I've learnt today that might help others. Dealing with anxiety can be crippling, and is one of the reasons why I am a homebody (coupled with depression). The good news is that, by focusing on the present, you can eliminate the effects of anxiety because anxiety is basically the fear of the future. You can control it to a degree with SSRIs, but you can also do it by meditation, or some other form of activity that makes you grounded in the present. Meditation is great because you are focusing on your breathing and not your thoughts. For me, I have a lot of personal insecurities that inhibit me from being the person that I want to be. It can be frustrating but after meditating for at least 5 minutes I have a clear head and a desire to stay on track instead of becoming an anxious wreck and thinking about ways and reasons to kill myself. If you'd like more tips or what not on how to deal with anxiety for your personal circumstance, I can help out, just dm me.

Sometimes pain can't be avoided, but many times suffering can. Suffering is a result of pain-inducing events, and there are many ways which people do to try and remediate their emotions after a painful event occurs. Isolating from friends/family, abusing drugs, hostility towards others, dangerous behaviours like self-mutilation, surrendering to your pain, and over-indulging in food/sex are all examples of coping strategies which can be self-destructive. Distracting yourself, trying harder to accept your circumstance, and distract some more can help with the stress from negative events.

An important message regarding the posting of advice: avoid highly divisive instructions. Anything definitive (must, do not, never, always, etc) can only be used when stating absolute facts (ie. do not stick a metal fork into a wall outlet). One can only encourage or discourage a certain action or practice. Try phrases/words such as "lessen", "if possible", "consider". Second, but also just as important, do not forget to provide context. In giving advice, context informs the reader WHY an advice is being given or why we should we bother spending our time clicking on a link (or considering what was written on a one-liner).
------- incidentally, there's a massive discussion to be had regarding the relation of social media with regards to how it affects human emotions. Also, aside from connectivity and social interaction, such online platforms are also used for commerce (and other functions). So a simple flat out "avoid twitter/instagram" message is not good general advice (while it would certainly help a few individuals, it does not apply to everyone). One can even go in depth and discuss how to use social media while not beng affected emotionally by it. In any case, please be mindful when giving advice. (edited)

I don't think social media can make you depressed
I'm using Instagram
I just reached 100 followers

Exercise
I’d recommend running
It’ll help refresh yourself, physically and mentally, do it occasionally or everyday
Should wear a tank top for sports and shorts as well (edited)
It’s a good way to work off stress
And maybe counter sad moods

I wouldn't recommend running too much, as it puts pressure on your articulations and might cause serious problems later in the years, I know that because I used to run professionally and I can't do that anymore, since my right knee is half blown up
Callisthenics are the best if you wanna build strength, just watch some YTB videos or ask around, I know what to do in case anyone wants to have infos, I'm also pretty sure I've already discussed about this up in the chat

As you're new here, I'll only ask you to restrain from replying to the tips here unless you think that they are very wrong / very good. Thank you in advance. (edited)

I'd recommend resistance bands if you want to be able to a great variety of exercises, they're space-efficient and cheap as well. You'll be able to mimic most things you can do at the gym and some argue that they are even better than free weight since they're more versatile.

with resistance bands you can make free weight exercices harder or easier
and you can't rlly hurt yourself
so they are great
but if you don't eat well doing exercices isnt rlly efficient

Well they're more versatile, more affordable and come in packs usually, so it's pretty good. You do need some good ones though or they'll break quite easily. It's more of a hit or miss sometimes, really thonk

Yeah you'll also want a specific type, for example you don't want the mini loop bands since they're quite limited. I can show mine when I get home if anyone is interested. And diet is definitly important, might even be more important depending on your goals!

Too much fact checking
kek 2
I’ve noticed
Ran professionally but you messed your knee up, the guy up there said not to over do it though
I dunno if I wanna stay here
It isn’t very helpful if everyone keeps going at each other correcting others, it make it unhelpful

Thanks for the many tips and discussions. This channel has been reformed based on the suggestions. There has been a problem of mixing the discussion of tips and actual tips in this one channel. So from now on, this channel will be divided into two channels. They are #hiki-tips-discussion and #hiki-tips. #hiki-tips-discussion This is a channel for discussion of tips about the Hikikomori life. Anyone can post on this channel. #hiki-tips Only actual tips will be posted here. Only the moderators(@Hiki advisor) will be able to post in this channel. And this channel #hiki-tips-archive will be stopped, but will remain as an archive. Thanks! (edited)
